Books and Seasons

Everyone probably has experienced fluctuating moods with changing seasons .Seasonal changes not only affect our body but also our brain activity differs based on seasonal changes -varying between spring ,summer, autumn and winter.According to a study brain utilizes its resources differently to perform the same cognitive task based on what season is it.Reading though appears same is also affected by the changing seasons.Till date I feel that I can study and read more in winters than in summer.Every season is for reading .My reading activities ,such as what, where, how much I am reading surely depends on what season  is it.

In India we basically have 6 season which can be broadly classified into 4 seasons-Summer or Pre-monsoon ,Monsoon, Autumn or post -monsoon and Winter season .As I have said earlier that season have an impact on your mood ,they alos have an impact on what genre I am reading currently.Though mystery novels are fun gateway all the year round to the detective world. The Spring season Or Vasant Ritu is very brief but it just gives me a happy spirit after the foggy and cloudy winter. So,I read any good book that I get my hands at(truly I never even glance at biographies or self-help books).

The Summers are hot and sultry ,it is honestly very difficult to lose myself in a book when roaring sun is shining overhead .Summer is time of year where I do the least reading ,but  last year was an exception when I read nearly 45 books in 2 months.I think that was only because I was bored and had nothing to do in my college break. But whenever I read in summers its mostly fantasies and fictions .

Monsoon is happy time where the rain  drops vanish the dry spell created by sun in summers. The monsoon season inspires one to become poetic, there are many Hindi poems  and songs written on Baarish(rain) and Savan(monsoon season). In monsoons I like to read some light poetry ,because in truth I cannot digest much of poetry. The genre which I tend to like is some light and humorous novels which tell about happy times .I read a classic novel last year Pride and Prejudice  in monsoon and like it very much so,I am looking forward to read another classic this year and see if classics and monsoon go hand in hand for me.

The autumn season makes me crave for mystery books ,psychological thrillers or sci-fi fantasy. My reading life really becomes interesting once there is chill in the air and winters are approaching. This season is mysterious like the novels I love to read during it .Though these 3 genres along with historical romance are the ones I can read at any time of the year.

The winters are cold and I don't like to go outside. The prospect of  sitting cozily in blanket with a romantic book and a steaming cup of coffee appeals me more than going out.I am more of an indoor person though my parents I should go out more but I like to be inside and delve deep into some other world(the world of book I'm currently reading).

So basically for me its fantasy during summers, light novels and some poetry in monsoon ,mystery in autumn and romantic genre books in winter.I like my books to reflect the same vibe .Do you associate specific books or genres with season ,if you do then tell me below in the comments.

  4. I agree that I love to read in all seasons, indoors or outdoors, and choose different genres or stories depending on the season. Mood is definitely a big factor in both reading and getting through the year.
