Christmas Books For Children
I have observed that the spirit of holidays and festivals is high among children and it diminishes as we grow up .They(children) have a habit of finding joy and laughter even in small things;the rapt attention they give to stories is amazing.So I thought of writing a post for children (though generally they don't read blogs) , and the adults can share it to the little angels.There is a tradition of telling stories by the fireside in Christmas.So here's a list of books that you might have read and want to share with your little ones or maybe you can gift them.These books are definitely going to take you back on a memory lane.
1.The Legend Of Poinsettia by Tomie dePaola
In Mexico ,the poinsettia is called flor de la Nochebueno flower of Holy Night.At Christmastime,the flower blooms and flourishes,the quite exquisite red stars lightning up the countryside.This is the story how the poinsettia became so important in the Christmas tradition.It's a powerful story of a girl's humble love for Jesus.It is a beautiful story to read to children as it will tell them about other cultures and their holiday traditions.
2.The Jolly Christmas Postman by Janet Ahlberg
The Jolly Postman brings a batch of wonderful Christmas letters from classic fairytale characters.Each page is a poem and after every two pages there is an envelope that contains a Christmas letters and cards within it that are delightful to see and read.
3.Pick a Pine Tree by Patricia Toht
It is a charming read aloud book with a rhyming story for young childrens.Part of magic of christmas sterns with traditions that family and friends take part in.This book is about a family going to choose a Christmas tree and bringing it home to decorate it.
4.The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg
A young boy is awakened from his Christmas Eve rest by a train that magically appears just outside his home.It's a beautiful and vivid enchanting story that children will love and I think adult never tire to read.A movie with name is also there and its quite amazing
"Seeing is believing,but sometimes real things in the world are the things we can't see".This book is going to heighten your Christmas spirit.
5.Letters from Father Christmas by J.R.R. Tolkein
Also known as Father Christmas Letters,are a collection of illustrated letters from Father Christmas to Tolkein's children.It is such a sweet and heartfelt.Tolkein must be a great father to go through these efforts for his children.It is a book which both kids and their parents could read.Really worth reading around Christmas time.
6.The Nutcracker and the Mouse King by E.T.A. Hoffmann
In the story a young girl's favorite Christmas toy Nutcracker comes alive and after defeating the evil,Mouse King ,whisks her away to a magical kingdom.This a perfect read for those who love fairytale endings and also love their toys.
7.Dream Snow by Eric Carl
It's Christmas,but where is snow? In this book the farmers goes to sleep and dreams about snow covering his whole farm and animals in a white blanket which actually comes true .This book is fun to read when winter starts and the snow covers earth like a white blanket as described in the book .The illustrations in the book are lovely and it is a lift the flap book.

8.The Little Match Girl by Hans Christian Andersen
The story is a dying girl's dreams and hopes.The wares of the poor little match girl illuminate her cold world,bringing some beauty to her brief ,tragic life.It is a sad story will rip your heart out,but I included it because it's close to my heart.
9.The Girl Who Saved Christmas by Matt Haig
If magic has a beginning ,can it also have an end?The story is of Amelia ,the first child to ever receive gift from Father Christmas.Her hope made the visit possible.Amelia faces hardships after death of her mother ,and writes to Father Christmas for help ,but it seems that Christmas would be cancelled because of upset elves,reindeers dropping out of the sky.But Amelia isn't an ordinary girl ,her hope and belief make Christmas happen .It is read aloud book for children at Christmas Eve.
10.The Snowman by Raymond Briggs
a wordless book that tells the magic story of a boy and his snowman.This is a story of a magical snowman that takes the boy on a visit to Santa Claus.There is also an animated version of the book.
11.A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens
It is a ghost story of Christmas set in Victorian Era.To bitter,miserly Ebenezer Scrooge ,Christmas is just another day.But all of this changes with appearance of the ghost of his long- dead business partner.The book is perfectly festive and is also appropriately didactic is an allegory to the bitter and miser people who refuse to take part in the joyous occassions. The book coveys a strong message that money cannot always buy happiness as it happens in the case of Scrooge.It is a wonderful read that is going to cheer Christmas spirit.If you are looking for an e-book then it is available on google for free.There are many adaptions present of this book.

13.How Santa Got His Job by Stephen Krensky
A cute little story about Santa growing up,finding his job,where he met his reindeer,how he knows ways to various chimneys and all the other questions regarded to Santa are answered in this book.This a funny book that shows transformation of Santa as he goes from one job to other until he meets the job that suits him the best.
14.Jingle Bells by Iza Trapani
Jingle Bells ,the famous Christmas rhyme,but it is much more than that.It is a charming story of a boy and a snowstorm.The text begins with original 'Jingle Bells' and the moves to Christmas in other cultures.Its an educational book and fun to read it aloud.It takes the reader all around the world describing the celebration of Christmas in different countries.
15.The Legend of Candy Cane by Lori Walburg
The legend of Candy Cane with it's religious theme ,is a perfect read for Christmas season.Children will be enthralled by the candy store and will delight learning more about their famous Christmas treat.The story is of a little girl hanging out at candy store and helping her new neighbour.Its a nice family read.
16.The Christmas Wish by Lori Evert
A sweet tale of a little girl ,Anja whose greatest wish is to be one of Santa's elves.So she sets off on one day to do just that.This book is written by little Anja's mother,Lori Evert and the photograohs were taken by Per Breiehagen ,her father.What an amazing finish to what could have been only a family project.The stunning book takes you on a magical Christmass journey full of magic,innocence and kindness.The pictures add life to the book.
17.Llama Llama Holiday Drama by Anna Dwedney
This is an awesome and unique story about Christmas that gets kids thinking about Christmas with a different perspective.It is aweet story about the wait for Christmastime told in rhyme featuring adorable fuzzy animals.
18.Merry Christmas Stinky Face by Lisa McCourt
Stinky Face loves Christmastime.He pepeers his mom with 'what-if' questions about the Santa's visit and the mom has right answers to all those questions.This book accurately describe how children act around holidays.
19.Santa Favourite Story by Hisako Aoki
Christmas is cancelled this year because Santa is too tired to deliver all his packages.The forest animals are worried ,but when Santa tells them the story of very first Christmas when Christ was born,the animals discover the true spirit of season.
20.Christmas in Camelot by Mary Pope Osborne
It is the 29th book of Magic Tree house series.A beautiful tale of two children
Jack and Annie who travel through time to save Camelot ,bringing joy and laughter ,music and colour to castle at Christmastime.It is also the introduction of Merlin.I really loved reading this series and is still close to my heart.
